Surfin' Like the Silver One - Some Things Are Best Left Undone...

Dus,

Heard about this one? The Fantastic Four sequel, "Rise of the Silver Surfer," is in production for a 2007 release.

Yeah, I know. The first Fantastic4 was a pretty weak screen play, but the effects were...well, Fantastic. I have high hopes for the sequel. The Silver Surfer is the perfect "tragic hero," the only one of his kind in all of the universe, an amoral super being, enslaved, but seeking to be free, teetering on the tipping point between good and evil - yadda, yadda, yadda...

Man, of all the Marvel comics heroes, the Silver Surfer was the one I most wanted to be when I was a comic book kid. I think I understand what it feels like to be this guy.

uber geek confession:
I even drew plans and searched the classifieds in the back of magazines like Boy's Life for compact "lift" capable propellors/fans to install into a surf board. I figured out a pre-Wii-era palm-mounted inertial steering mechanism. It was wired to the board - wireless wasn't really an option then (as if any of this scheme was, lol).

In the event of an unplanned seperation from my board, my palm-mounted steering device's wire would disconnect and the board would hover in place; sort of a "dead man's switch" arrangement. Yeah, yeah - it only took me a moment to realize that if I fell off my silver surfboard while threading between sky scrapers at 70 stories, that loosing my board would be the least of my worries. "Dead man switch" indeed.

Thank God I didn't follow up on that particular brainstorm. -dj
